Do you actually need a battery?
A battery makes the most sense if you use a lot of power in the evening, you’re on a time-of-use tariff, you want blackout protection, or you’re aiming for real energy independence. If most of your usage is during the day while your solar is already covering it, the payback is slower and we’ll tell you that honestly rather than sell you one anyway.
The other big lever is the rebate. With the federal discount bringing the upfront cost down by around 30%, the payback maths is far better than it was a couple of years ago.
How we size it
Bigger isn’t automatically better. A battery that’s too large for your solar or your usage just sits half-empty and stretches the payback. We look at three things: your daily usage pattern, how much surplus solar you generate, and your inverter’s output. From there we recommend the smallest battery that comfortably covers your evenings.
Backup isn’t automatic: a standard battery install won’t necessarily power your home in a blackout unless it’s set up with backup circuits. If outage protection matters to you, tell us up front and we’ll design for it.
VPP-ready if you want it
Many of the batteries we install are compatible with Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programs, where your retailer can draw on your stored energy at peak times in exchange for credits. It’s optional some homeowners love the extra return, others prefer to keep every kWh for themselves. We’ll set it up either way.
